Anambra Government Launches Integrated Measles Campaign With Free Vaccination Services

FIC Report (Anambra State) – The Government of Anambra State has officially kicked off its Integrated Measles Campaign across all 21 local government areas, reaffirming that all immunization services are free of charge.

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo who made this announcement during the flag off ceremony at Okpuno Primary Healthcare Centre in Awka South council area, emphasized that it is not just a political promise but a reality that all immunizations in the state are provided at no cost to the residents. He urged the public to report any instances of being asked to pay for vaccinations, ensuring that immunization remains truly free.

Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, Governor Soludo highlighted the state’s commitment to protecting children from preventable diseases through active and comprehensive vaccination programs, adding that the Health Ministry will administer vaccines, including the Human Papillomavirus vaccine, at the 326 primary healthcare centers across the state at no cost.

The Governor expressed gratitude to partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for their support in ensuring the success of health campaigns in the state.

World Health Organisation (WHO) South East Zonal Coordinator, Dr Chukwumuanya Igboekwu, commended the state government and partners for their commitment to healthcare development in the state while stressing the importance of vaccination in achieving health security and Universal Health Coverage.

The event also featured health talks and sensitization sessions to educate the public on the importance of vaccination and healthcare services.
