FIC Report (Edo State) – Benin City — The Coordinator Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Anani, has highlighted the critical importance of exclusive breastfeeding for infants and called for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to foster a supportive culture that benefits both mothers and children.

Speaking at a commemorative event held at Edo Specialist Hospital to mark World Breastfeeding Week, Mrs. Anani emphasized that breastfeeding from birth to six months offers unparalleled nutritional and health benefits for infants. Drawing from her personal experience, she underscored the vital role breast milk plays in providing antibodies, fostering healthy development, and protecting against illnesses. She also noted the advantages for mothers, including reduced health risks and quicker postpartum recovery.

Mrs. Anani urged Mothers, Healthcare Professionals, Policymakers, and Community Leaders to work together to create an environment that encourages and sustains breastfeeding practices. Despite the proven benefits, she pointed out that many society segments still face challenges such as misinformation and lack of support, leading to low breastfeeding rates.

The Event featured a presentation of gifts to babies displaying the best skin texture, body weight, and hygiene, alongside engaging activities including drama performances, Q&A Sessions, and Baby Assessments. Her Excellency also presented tokens of appreciation to Stakeholders for their contributions towards promoting Infant Health.
