NOA Decries Extreme Graduation Practices, Launches Value Reorientation Drive

FIC Report (Kwara State) – The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has raised concerns over the rising trend of extreme and immoral graduation practices across Nigeria’s educational institutions.

Speaking during a Nationwide Sensitization Campaign on Value Orientation held on Thursday at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Ilorin on Thursday 11th September, 2025, the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Issa Onilu—represented by the North Central Zonal Director, Princess Dr. Priscilla Gondoalour—described the development as shameful and urged collective action to curb the menace.

According to Gondoalour, what initially began as a “sign-out” culture in higher institutions has now filtered into secondary schools, manifesting in unruly behavior that contradicts societal values. She stressed the need for parents, educators, and stakeholders to work together in instilling discipline and patriotism in young Nigerians.

In her remarks, she further appealed to citizens to remain patriotic as the Federal Government continues efforts to reposition Nigeria for greater progress.

Also speaking at the event, Ahmed Muhammed of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation called on NOA to convene town hall meetings with stakeholders of educational institutions to collectively address the excesses of “sign-out” practices.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Kwara State Director of NOA, Alhaji Dare Abdulganiyu Olurotimi, outlined the campaign’s focus on five thematic areas: Value Reorientation, Flood Mitigation, Security Awareness, the Nigerian Identity Project, and the Promotion of National Symbols.

Several stakeholders at the sensitization program—including the Kwara State Commissioner for Youth Development, Ambassador Ndanusa Usman; a representative of the NYSC State Coordinator, Babatunde Funmilayo; the Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Olumide Solomon; and a representative of the Department of State Services, Abubakar Alhassan—lent their voices in support of the initiative.

The campaign, according to organizers, aims to promote positive values, strengthen national identity, and foster responsible citizenship across Nigeria.
