Kaduna State Takes Over Ahmadu Bello Stadium

FIC Report (Kaduna State) – The Kaduna State has formally taken over the iconic Ahmadu Bello Stadium from the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Sports Commission, following approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The transfer marks a major milestone in Kaduna’s drive to reposition sports as a catalyst for economic growth and social development.

Originally commissioned in 1964, the Stadium is now undergoing comprehensive reconstruction. Its seating capacity will be expanded from 16,000 to 32,000 — making it the second-largest stadium in Nigeria after the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The upgrade is expected to stimulate economic activity, promote sports tourism, create jobs, and attract investment into the State.

Importantly, the Stadium will remain a national asset, open to Nigeria’s national teams, federal sporting programmes, and major events of collective importance.

The National Sports Commission commended Kaduna State for aligning with the President’s agenda to establish sports as a viable economic driver.

The Kaduna State Government expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and all stakeholders for their support in making the transition possible.
