The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (FMIST) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting engineering, innovation and sustainable development through strategic partnerships aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s technological advancement and economic growth.

This commitment was expressed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad, mni when he received a delegation from the Engineers Without Borders Association (EWB) led by its Executive Director, Mr. Oladimeji Olutimelin, during a courtesy visit to the Ministry today in Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Muhammad described engineering as a critical driver of national development and a key instrument for addressing societal challenges through practical and innovative solutions. He noted that the Ministry remains committed to fostering collaborations that support the Federal Government’s vision of building a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy.

The Permanent Secretary emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships among government institutions, professional bodies, academia and the private sector to accelerate the development, adoption and commercialization of indigenous technologies capable of transforming lives and driving sustainable growth.

He further stated that the visit provides an important platform for collaboration between FMIST and the Engineers Without Borders Association in advancing engineering education and encouraging the practical application of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in senior secondary schools and tertiary institutions across the country.

Earlier, the Executive Director, Engineers Without Borders Association, Mr. Oladimeji Olutimelin, said the organization is dedicated to promoting engineering excellence, community development and sustainable infrastructure through innovative and inclusive approaches. He added that the EWB Association seeks to leverage engineering expertise to improve livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Mr. Olutimelin commended the Permanent Secretary for receiving the delegation and expressed the Association’s readiness to work closely with the Ministry in advancing engineering science, innovation and capacity building initiatives that will benefit Nigerians and strengthen the nation’s development agenda.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both organizations to harnessing engineering and innovation as catalysts for sustainable development, economic transformation and national prosperity, while laying the foundation for a productive partnership that will support Nigeria’s technological future.
