SERVICOM Office Holds Health Awareness Talk And Check, Emphasizes Well-being As Key To Staff Productivity

The SERVICOM Office, Presidency has concluded a health awareness talk and medical check for management and staff, with the Acting National Coordinator/CEO, Mrs. Helen Lawal, emphasizing that good health and well-being are critical to productivity and overall performance.

Speaking in her opening address today, 25th June 2026, at the Conference Room of the SERVICOM Office in Abuja, Mrs. Lawal said the session was organized to “raise awareness on the significant role good health and well-being play in general wellness and official productivity, help staff to ascertain their health status in order to attain good health and also to enable them learn about healthy lifestyle and diet that would improve healthy living”. She noted that the initiative was designed to increase staff awareness of their health, provide useful health information and empower them to make healthier choices.

The Ag. National Coordinator/CEO encouraged participants to ask questions, participate actively and make the most of the opportunity to learn from the resource person. She stressed that “a healthy workforce is a productive workforce, and that the SERVICOM Office remains committed to initiatives that promote the welfare of staff in line with its service delivery mandate”.

Mrs. Lawal reaffirmed the commitment of the SERVICOM Office to promoting a culture of wellness, preventive healthcare and continuous staff development, in line with the Federal Government’s drive for efficient and responsive public service.

In his remarks, Mr. Idowu Adesoji from the Health Client Services and Underwriting Department of United Healthcare International, told management and staff that good health is one of the most valuable assets anyone can possess. According to him, having a good knowledge of one’s health and maintaining improved wellness is very essential for productive work-rate and life fulfilment in general.

The resource person for the day, Mr. Philip Adeniyi, a registered nurse and Quality Assurance Officer with United Healthcare International, delivered a presentation on Hepatitis B, High Blood Pressure and Diabetes. Mr. Adeniyi advised staff to “pay attention to signs which the body usually shows before coming down with serious illnesses,” warning that “ignoring such early signs could result in devastating consequences”.

He also charged staff to give adequate rest to both the body and the mind, insisting that “rest is not laziness” as some people misconstrue it to be. He highlighted that “rest is the fuel that keeps a human being moving”. While emphasizing the pivotal role of diet and lifestyle in general well-being, Mr. Adeniyi warned that “when a person grows older, what he/she eats now will either come back to help or hurt him/her later in life”. He advocated for good diet habits and lifestyle changes, especially for staff above forty years of age.

On specific health conditions, Mr. Adeniyi explained that Hepatitis B is preventable and treatable while Hypertension and Diabetes can only be managed through medication and lifestyle changes. He revealed that Hepatitis B kills faster and spreads faster than HIV/AIDS, and challenged staff on the imperative of undergoing early laboratory tests to know their status and commence early treatment where necessary.

The health awareness session was brought to a successful conclusion with vote of thanks by the Head of SERVICOM Operations, Mrs. Ngozi Akinbodewa who further encouraged management and staff to practice the lessons learnt as a compass to living healthy. All participants took advantage of the opportunity to check their vital signs, with special focus on Blood Pressure, Fasting Sugar and Body Mass Index.
