FIC Report (Benue State) – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Makurdi and District Society, has ushered in a new leadership with the inauguration of Mrs. Aluashima Shirley Adedzwa, FCA, as the 13th Chairperson of the district for the 2026/2027 chairmanship year.
Speaking during her inauguration, Mrs. Adedzwa expressed gratitude to God and members of the district for the confidence reposed in her. She also appreciated past chairmen, the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), her family, and other supporters for their encouragement throughout her professional journey.
The new Chairperson pledged to provide transparent, inclusive and team-driven leadership while building on the achievements of previous administrations to further strengthen the district and the accounting profession in Benue State.
Mrs. Adedzwa outlined key priorities for her administration, including enhancing the capacity of members through the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programme and the revival of monthly technical sessions to ensure accountants remain competent and relevant in a rapidly evolving economy.
She also announced plans to strengthen mentorship by expanding the Catch-Them-Young (CTY) initiative and promoting the Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa (ATSWA), while seeking partnerships to support aspiring accountants who may face financial challenges.
As part of efforts to contribute to public sector development, the ICAN Makurdi and District Society intends to collaborate with the Benue State Government through the Civil Service Institute to provide professional training for accounting and finance personnel.
The Chairperson further identified the development of the district’s Secretariat complex at Genabe Layout as a major priority. She noted that work has commenced on the fencing phase of the project and appealed to members and stakeholders to support the vision of constructing a world-class facility for the benefit of both members and the public.


Calling for collective commitment, Mrs. Adedzwa urged members to contribute their ideas, expertise and support towards achieving the district’s goals. She assured members of an open-door policy and welcomed constructive criticism to promote accountability and the continued growth of the district.
Mrs. Aluashima Shirley Adedzwa formally accepted the responsibility of leading ICAN Makurdi and District Society for the 2026/2027 chairmanship year, pledging to serve with dedication and integrity.
Also speaking at the Chairman of the occasion Dr Andrew Ayabam said the incoming Chairman has the capacity to carry Benue institute to greater heights. He called for the support of all members.
