‎BPSR Calls For Stronger Digital Public Infrastructure To Enhance Governance And Economic Growth

The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mr. Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, has emphasized the urgent need for Nigeria to strengthen its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as a critical driver of economic growth, national security, transparency, and efficient governance.

‎Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the ITGOV 2026 Conference themed “Building Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure for Economic Growth, Security, and Governance Efficiency,” Mr. Arabi said the future of governance depends not only on sound policies but also on the effective deployment of innovation and technology to deliver citizen-centred public services.

‎He noted that governments across the world are increasingly investing in Digital Public Infrastructure as a foundation for improved service delivery, enhanced transparency, stronger national security, and sustainable economic development.

‎“For Nigeria, building a robust Digital Public Infrastructure is no longer an option; it is a necessity,” he stated.

‎The BPSR DG stressed that technology alone cannot transform governance, explaining that sustainable reforms require sound policies, simplified processes, capable institutions, effective leadership, and a public service culture that embraces innovation and continuous improvement.

‎Mr. Arabi highlighted the Bureau’s ongoing efforts to drive public sector transformation through digital innovation. He recalled that the Bureau recently launched three strategic digital reform platforms, the Reform Tracker Dashboard, Reform Knowledge Repository, and the National Strategy for Public Service Reforms (NSPSR) Dashboard, to strengthen reform coordination, institutionalize evidence-based decision-making, preserve institutional knowledge, and improve monitoring of public sector reforms.

‎According to him, the platforms represent a significant milestone in advancing the Federal Government’s reform agenda and strengthening accountability across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

‎“These initiatives underscore our commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes efficient governance, improved public service delivery, economic transformation, transparency, and accountability,” he said.

‎Mr. Arabi further stressed that achieving meaningful digital transformation requires broad-based collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, academia, development partners, civil society organizations, and technology innovators.

‎He described the ITGOV 2026 Conference as an important platform for fostering dialogue, building partnerships, and generating innovative solutions capable of addressing governance and development challenges.

‎The BPSR boss urged participants to focus not only on emerging technologies but also on building strong institutions capable of sustaining long-term national development.

‎He called for actionable recommendations that would strengthen governance, improve service delivery, promote innovation, and accelerate Nigeria’s transition to a secure, inclusive, and digitally enabled economy.

‎Reaffirming the Bureau’s commitment to public service modernization, Mr. Arabi pledged continued collaboration with stakeholders to advance reforms that improve governance outcomes and enhance the quality of service delivery to Nigerians.

‎He also commended the organizers of the conference for creating a platform that brings together policymakers, public sector leaders, technology experts, regulators, development partners, and innovators to shape the future of digital governance in Nigeria.
