FIC Report (Abia State) – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, has distributed the second batch of newly acquired high-tech security equipment to its personnel, as part of efforts to strengthen surveillance, intelligence gathering and operational effectiveness across the state.
The State Commandant, CC Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, FCIA, KSM, JP, made this known on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, while flagging off the distribution of the equipment at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia.
The Commandant charged personnel to make maximum and effective use of the equipment to enhance their operations and improve the Corps’ capacity to prevent and respond to emerging security threats.
He urged the beneficiaries to redouble their efforts in surveillance, real-time intelligence gathering and sharing, as well as other operational responsibilities, stressing that the equipment was procured to enable personnel deliver more effectively on the statutory mandates of the Corps.
According to him, the distribution of the equipment came shortly after personnel participated in the State Government-sponsored Five-Day Strategic Capacity Building Workshop on Technological Advancement in Security Management, which was designed to expose senior personnel to modern approaches and technologies in security management.
“Just few days ago, you all participated in the State Government-sponsored Five-Day Strategic Capacity Building Workshop on Technological Advancement in Security Management. Today, we have taken a step further to fully equip you to effectively deliver on the Corps’ mandates through the distribution of these high-tech crime-fighting equipment,” Odimba said.
While congratulating the beneficiaries, the State Commandant reminded them that the equipment were primarily intended to enhance their operational capabilities and improve service delivery.
He said the present leadership of the Corps had demonstrated strong commitment to personnel development through continuous training, retraining and the provision of modern operational equipment.
“Remember, these equipment are basically to enhance your operations. The present leadership of the Corps has been quite intentional in your capacity development. You have no excuse not to deliver,” he stated.
Odimba commended the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, for his commitment to transforming the Corps through strategic capacity-building programmes, provision of modern high-tech crime-fighting equipment and improved personnel welfare.
He assured that mechanisms had been put in place to ensure the equipment were properly deployed and closely monitored for effective utilisation.
According to him, the monitoring mechanism would ensure that every part of the state was adequately covered, thereby justifying the huge government resources invested in acquiring the equipment and supporting the Corps’ ongoing digital transformation.
The State Commandant further reiterated his commitment to personnel training and retraining, noting that since assuming office in March 2026, he had consistently emphasised capacity development as a critical factor in improving the performance of the Corps in Abia State.
He also reaffirmed his belief in the principle of “preventive security,” stressing that the newly distributed equipment would contribute significantly towards achieving the objective.
Odimba noted that the recently concluded Strategic Capacity Building Workshop was the sixth in a series of programmes designed to strengthen the operational capacity of NSCDC personnel in Abia State.
He expressed optimism that the substantial investments in human capacity development, logistics and modern security equipment would translate into improved security operations and better protection of lives and property across the state.
The Command therefore called on personnel to demonstrate professionalism, commitment and accountability in the use of the equipment, in line with the Federal Government’s mandate of strengthening the nation’s internal security architecture.
The NSCDC Abia State Command reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders and deploying available resources towards the realisation of a crime-free and safer society.
