FIC REPORT (OGUN STATE) – Dr Mary Oluwaseun Adebayo of Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School (Senior), Obantoko, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has emerged Nigeria’s Overall Best Teacher for 2026.
Adebayo clinched the award at the Federal Government’s President’s Teachers’ and Schools’ Excellence Awards, held as part of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Abuja.
Previously, Adebayo had earlier won the Best Public Senior Secondary School Teacher category before being announced as the overall best teacher in the country.
She was rewarded with a brand-new car as star prize for her dedication to the teaching profession.
Speaking after receiving the award, Adebayo expressed gratitude to God for the national recognition.
“I started this work in a private school. I kept doing the work, I did not know the Lord will reward me this way,” she said.
Reacting to the development, the Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Obantoko Old Students Association (NUDGOSA), in a statement signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Sanni Damilola, and issued by its National President, Hon. Fasiu Bakenne, described the achievement as a source of pride.
“NUDGOSA is particularly proud that one of our own has risen to the pinnacle of the teaching profession in Nigeria,” the statement said.
The association noted that her emergence had brought honour to the school and would serve as an inspiration to current students, teachers, alumni and the wider community.
The President’s Teachers’ and Schools’ Excellence Awards recognises teachers, school administrators and schools across different categories in public and private schools nationwide.
