The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) has announced plans to establish 145 Environmental Monitoring Units at all points of entry across Nigeria to ensure that everyone coming into the country is screened before entry.
This was disclosed in the opening remarks by the Registrar/CEO of the Council, Dr. Yakubu Mohammed Baba, who was represented by Dr. Bala Tukur, National Coordinator, National Institute of Environmental Health, during the commemoration of the 2026 Customer Service Week held today, 21st October, 2026 at the Council’s Headquarters, Abuja.
The one-day Customer Service Sensitization event, organized by EHCON in collaboration with SERVICOM, was aimed at strengthening service delivery, promoting professional ethics, and reinforcing the Council’s commitment to efficient and client-focused service.
The event was themed “Going the Extra Mile.”
Stating the objectives of the event, the Registrar said it was designed to sensitize staff on the principles of SERVICOM and customer service delivery, promote a culture of courtesy, responsiveness and professionalism in dealing with stakeholders, strengthen feedback mechanisms for improved client satisfaction, and appreciate staff and clients for their continuous support to the Council.
“EHCON as a regulatory body must lead by example in service delivery,” he stated.
Dr. Baba commended the SERVICOM Unit of the Council for organizing the event, noting that Environmental Health is a people-centered profession.
“I would like to appreciate the SERVICOM Unit for organizing this timely event. Environmental Health service is a people-centered profession, and customer satisfaction is key to public trust,” he said.
He emphasized that every staff of the Council is an ambassador of EHCON.
“I charge all officers to treat every client – practitioners, students, and the general public – with empathy, professionalism and promptness,” he charged.
The Registrar reaffirmed Management’s commitment to improving service delivery channels, including the enhancement of digital platforms for registration, indexing and licensing.
He noted that the event is coming at a critical time, following reports of an Ebola outbreak in Abuja, adding that EHCON staff, as frontline workers in every pandemic and public health emergency, must remain vigilant and committed to safeguarding human health within communities and the society at large.
