Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Abia State has inaugurated the Committee on Enrolment of Abia Residents into the National Identity Data Base to correct the wrong population figure ascribed to the State during the last Census exercise
The Governor who inaugurated the Committee at the Government House, Umuahia, said the National Identity Data Base would also help obtain a reliable data for accurate planning and governance.
He charged members of the Committee to ensure that the enrollment of citizens is effectively carried out in the State because of its importance in the overall development of the State.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu who also doubles as Chairman of the Committee, called on Abians to get registered at the nearest National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to collect their National Identity Card to enable them rip the benefits while Government is equipped to plan in accordance to the data base.
He equally charged the Committee members who are drawn from heads of relevant Ministries and critical Stakeholders to embark on enlightening exercising by mobilizing Abians and residents to get registered
Responding on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee and the State Deputy Governor, the Manager Of BIOSEC, Dr Agu Osoka, appreciated the Government for creating an enabling environment for them to function and promised that the Committee will deliver on their mandate
Other members of the Committee include, the SSG, Bar Chris Ezem,, Commissioner For Finance, Dr Aham Uko, Commissioner For Information, Chief John Okeiyi Kalu, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,Budget and Planning, Manager of BIOSEC, Dr Agu Osoka, State Coordinator of NIMC amongst others
