The Anglican Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, the Right Reverend Geoffrey Ibeabuchi delivering has called on Journalists to ensure that they uphold truth in their reportage of events even as the electioneering period gathers momentum.
Rt Revd. Ibeabuchi made this call during a special Thanksgiving Service organized by Members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Abia State held at St Stephen’s Anglican Cathedral, Umuahia.
The Bishop appreciated them in celebrating the end of the year and consecration of her new leadership, urged the Women to always ensure that they report events with the spirit of God by been factual in their reportage.
The Clergy while praying for the new Leadership of the Association, also asked God for a three years tenure filled with love, unity of purpose and dedication to service.
He also advised them to ensure that they carry all along in the scheme of things.
The Anglican Bishop of Umuahia however , emphasized the need for Christians to always imbibe the spirit of Thanksgiving and Sacrifices which he said would motivate God to deliver them in the days of trouble.
Bishop Ibeabuchi who spoke on the topic, “Harvest of Joy” and took his text from Psalm chapter 126 vs 5-6 urged Christians to continue to sow in Gods vineyard so as to reap bountifully.
Also Strengthening on Voter Education canvassed by NAWOJ, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Abia State Officer in charge of Voter Education in the State, Okere Kelechi Nkemjika has urged Nigerians to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) and shun voter apathy which has killed the development of the country in the coming 2023 General Elections.
Nkemjika, maintained that no one can sit in the comfort of his home and desire a free, fair and credible elections without coming out to partake in the electoral process.
He said INEC has made it possible for one to claim or object to issues pertaining to PVCs by logging into cvr.inecnigeria.org/home/start, adding that PVCs registered between January 2011 to December 2021 are ready for collection in various INEC Offices while those registered between January to July 2022 are still being expected.
Mr. Okere used the forum to remind everyone that the power of change lies in their hands as the Commission will use no other means of election aside the Bi-Modial Voters Accreditation System, BIVAS, at the 2023 polls.
In an interview, the Chairperson, NAWOJ, Abia State chapter, Comrade Josephine Ogwo thanked God for keeping every Member of the Association alive during the year , for a successful Election and pledged to ensure that the welfare of Women Journalists remains paramount, even as she called for the coperation of all to achieve a successful term in office.
The NAWOJ State Chairman maintained that there is no crises in Abia NAWOJ but informed that they are focusing on moving the Association forward.
Highlights of the service was processional thanksgivings by Members of NAWOJ Abia State.
The Service was well attended by Permanent Secretaries and Veterans in the NUJ profession.
