The Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy (FMACTCE), Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa has disclosed that the Creative sector of the Economy is roughly contributing 2.3% of the GDP, against an official target of N100 billion GDP contribution and 2 million jobs by 2030, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present Administration, adding that to get to the target, the Ministry have recently inaugurated four drafting committees on policy and strategy, programmes and implementation, Stakeholder engagement and monitoring and evaluation to build the institutional and financial architecture of our creative industries need.
The Minister made the disclosure today in her office when the Director- General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Professor Ayo Omotayo and Alh.Lai Mohammed, the former Minister of Information and Culture paid her a visit to intimate the Honourable Minister of its plans to host a National Summit and Exhibition on the Orange Economy, and to seek the Ministry’s support, collaboration and participation as the lead government institution for creative economy and tourism policy in Nigeria.
She added that “we are also concluding work on the National Tourism policy that will anchor this vision for years to come”.
Musawa thanked NIPSS for selecting Orange Economy as its Section 48 study theme, affirming that it aligns with the Ministry’s core mandate and the President’s diversification agenda, adding that, this year’s Senior Executive Course (SEC) has been chosen to turn that lens on the Orange Economy, which she said comprised of the creative, cultural and cultural- heritage sectors.
She further hinted that NIPSS occupies a unique place in our national life as the preeminent institution charged with equipping Nigeria’s current and future leaders with the strategic thinking our country needs.
She noted that the Ministry under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, has been working deliberately to reposition our creative, cultural and tourism sectors as guinue engines of national growth, not as an afterthought to the economy, but as a frontier of it.
The Minister assured of the Ministry’s readiness to work and partner with NIPSS as a technical partner, and as a Convener of our stakeholders on the Summit and Exhibition, affirming that the Ministry welcomes NIPSS’ proposal.
Earlier, the Director-General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, delivering his remarks said that the visit to the Ministry is consistently with the pattern and likely a planing engagement for, or a precusor to, the proposed National Summit and Exhibition.
He said the Institute has bounded themselves with the President’s agenda of rebuilding the economy for 2030.
Omotayo added that the Institute is seeking the Ministry’s partnership and collaboration to ensure the vision comes to establishment as an institutional framework with institutionalized strategic policies.
Alh. Lai Mohammed, former Minister of Information and Culture on his remarks, opined that, the Orange Economy Summit and Exhibition can create employment and jobs in the creative industry, adding that, the industry is the future of the economy and should be treated as very important industry.
However, NIPSS is currently running it’s SEC. Executive Course 48, 2026 whose study theme is “organizing economic and sustainable development in Nigeria: issues, challenges and opportunities”.
