The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through strengthened collaboration with the United Nations, development partners and key national stakeholders.

The Minister made the commitment on Monday while participating in the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023–2027 Steering Committee Meeting held at the United Nations House, Abuja, where he joined fellow Ministers, senior government officials, the United Nations Country Team in Nigeria, development partners, members of the diplomatic community and other stakeholders to review progress under the Cooperation Framework and chart the way forward for accelerated implementation of the SDGs.

The Steering Committee Meeting provided a strategic platform for the Government of Nigeria and the United Nations to assess the implementation of the UNSDCF 2023–2027, deepen inter-agency collaboration and reinforce collective efforts towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Doro stated that the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction remains resolute in supporting national and global efforts aimed at reducing poverty, strengthening social protection systems and building resilient communities through strategic partnerships and coordinated interventions.

He noted that the Ministry’s flagship One Humanitarian–One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS) has continued to provide an integrated framework that aligns humanitarian response, social protection and poverty reduction initiatives under a single national coordination mechanism, bringing together governments at all levels, United Nations agencies, development partners, civil society organisations and the private sector to deliver more impactful and accountable interventions.

The Honourable Minister further highlighted the National Poverty Intelligence Lab (NPIL) as a major innovation supporting the implementation of OHOPRS, explaining that the platform provides real-time, evidence-driven data that enhances programme targeting, policy formulation and accountability, while strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to tackle multidimensional poverty in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr. Doro commended the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, the United Nations Country Team in Nigeria and development partners for their sustained commitment to supporting Nigeria’s humanitarian and development priorities. He stressed that achieving the SDGs requires stronger institutional collaboration, innovative financing, technology-driven solutions and sustained partnerships among government institutions, development partners and other stakeholders.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to working with all partners to operationalise the Renewed Hope Agenda through coordinated humanitarian action, inclusive social protection and sustainable poverty reduction programmes, expressing confidence that the resolutions of the Steering Committee Meeting would further strengthen collective efforts towards building a more resilient, inclusive and prosperous Nigeria where no one is left behind.
