FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – The Federal Government is embarking on community engagement for wider consultation on the tax reform bills.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on community engagement (North Central), Mrs Abiodun Essiet, said her office was in the state to intensify awareness on the proposed legislation.

The event, which was held on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital, pulled together stakeholders from youth, religious, and business organizations across the state.

The objective, according to Essiet, is to engage major stakeholders on the importance of participation and feedback.

“The essence of today’s gathering is to break down in clear terms what the tax reform bill means for the Nigerian people, and to create space for open, honest feedback,” she said.

“This bill is a pro-masses in every sense of the word. At its heart, it is designed to promote small businesses, entrepreneurship, and create jobs, ensuring that Nigerians start up and enterprises can grow in a competitive and fair economy while creating job opportunities for our youthful population.”

She explained that the tax bill reform would eliminate the multiplicity of taxes, which is a major complaint from businesses, by streamlining tax processes and making compliance easier and more transparent.

“Furthermore, the bill includes a provision that individuals who can earn N800,000 per annum or less will pay zero percent tax. That is a bold and compassionate move towards protecting the most vulnerable in our society,” she said.

She appealed to the stakeholders that the gathering was not about presentation but participation because feedback would be documented and transmitted directly to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and other relevant agencies.
