Discussions on the relevance of geospatial data/information as vital means of achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 9 priority areas of the Government of Muhammadu Buhari and generally good governance have since taken the centre stage.
With this in mind, the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ahmad Lawan; the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN and the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Nigeria, Edward Kallon will be expected to grace the 2020 Survey Coordination Conference and Meeting of the Advisory Board on Survey Training. The year’s theme is “Geospatial Information: Achievements of SDGs and Good Governance.”
These, among other personalities are expected to give members of the survey community something to chew on as regards their important role of providing the requisite geospatial data/information which would help in achieving the laudable programmes and projects of the Nigerian Government.
Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Taiwo S. Adeniran who has since approved September 1st – 3rd, 2020 for the conference has maintained that the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) was being positioned to provide geospatial inputs and graphic details for the achievement of security arrangements, economic, agriculture, energy, job creation, expansion of transportation and infrastructure projects of the federal government designed to alleviate poverty and enhance national development.
Director of Survey Coordination, Surv. Godwin Uzoma who is chairing the planning committee disclosed that the conference would be held virtually through Zoom Webinar because of the new normal noting that arrangements for the conference were being carried out in line with the directives from the Head of the Civil Service aimed at curtailing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, the conference expects the participation of all the Surveyors General of the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT representatives of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON), Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), tertiary institutions engaged in the training of surveyors, Military and Para-Military among other critical stakeholders.
The special Guest of Honour is the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ahmad Lawan; with the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, His Excellency, Babatunde Raji Fashola as the Chief Host. The Guest Speaker is the United Nations Representative and National Coordinator of the UN System in Nigeria, His Excellency, Edward Kallon.
