FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has expressed deep concern and outrage over the reported abduction of passengers, including candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), along the Makurdi–Otukpo Road in Otukpo.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary Sir Tersoo Kula on Thursday 16 April 2026, the Governor strongly condemned the reprehensible and cowardly act carried out by criminal elements.
“The targeting of innocent citizens, particularly students on their way to sit for examinations, is unacceptable and stands against every norm of humanity and civil order,” the Governor stated.
Governor Alia assured the people of Benue State, especially the affected families, that security agencies have already swung into action and are actively pursuing the perpetrators.
“Tactical teams have been fully mobilised, and coordinated search-and-rescue operations are ongoing to ensure the safe return of all abducted persons,” he said.
The Governor reiterated his earlier directive for the immediate flushing out of terrorists and other criminal elements hiding in forests across the state.
He disclosed that he remains in constant communication with security commanders on the ground and has directed that no effort be spared in securing the immediate release of the victims and bringing those responsible to justice.
“We understand the anxiety and pain this incident has caused, particularly for parents whose children were among those abducted.
We stand with you at this difficult time and assure you that everything humanly and operationally possible will be done to secure their safe release,” he added.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across Benue State.
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information where necessary.
He further assured citizens that the state will not succumb to criminality, emphasizing that decisive actions will continue to be taken to protect lives and property.
