…..Calls for Citizens’ Vigilance.

FIC Report (Kano State) – Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has joined the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other relevant security agencies in the destruction of 12.2 tonnes of illicit narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and other dangerous chemicals seized across the state, while calling on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesman.
Governor Yusuf made the call during the formal destruction exercise organised by the NDLEA in collaboration with the Kano State Government at Hawan Kalibawa in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the Governor said the success recorded was the result of coordinated efforts among the NDLEA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigeria Immigration Service, community policing units, local vigilante groups, and dedicated civil servants.

He noted that the destruction exercise was not merely symbolic, but a practical demonstration of the government’s firm, sustained, and humane policy of denying criminal networks the opportunity to poison communities with illicit substances.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency intelligence sharing and cross-border collaboration to dismantle drug trafficking networks, while expanding the Safe Corridor Project to benefit more communities across the state.

He further disclosed that through the Committee for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation, the state government has arrested over 400 youths suspected of involvement in drug-related offences and thuggery.

The Governor commended the efforts of all stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse, particularly the judiciary, for ensuring speedy and appropriate prosecution of offenders.

Earlier, the NDLEA Strategic Commander in Kano, CN Dahiru Lawal Yahaya, disclosed that the Federal High Court sitting in Kano had, on January 16, April 28, and May 15, 2026, granted orders authorising the Command to destroy by burning all seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances weighing 11,990.427 kilograms, recovered from convicted offenders.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), represented by DCGN Ningi, expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for its unwavering support to the Agency, particularly the recent donation of three Hilux vehicles and other financial interventions to strengthen its operations.
