The Representative of the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Bashir Nura Alkali, flagged off the distribution of Engagement letters and working devices to trained Independent Monitors in Kano State at Coronation Hall Government House, Kano State.
Alkali disclosed that the National Social Investment Programme (NISP), created by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 is mandated to lift citizens out of poverty through NSIP, N-Power, National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) and Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme (GEEP), were moved to Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs when it was created in 2019. The Programme is implemented in the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory.
Continuing, Alkali said, Kano State was among 5000 IM trained in February – April 2021 when the nationwide training was flagged off.
“The devices to be used for monitoring the Programme are locally made in Nigeria with an application called Social Investment Management Information Syste (SIMIS), which monitors and reports the activities of the IM on the field, sees the NSIP performance indicator by state, detect areas where there are challenges and essentially helps the Ministry to deliver on the mandate, to to lift 1000 million Nigerians out of poverty” he said.
The IM are expected to monitor a designated number of beneficiaries of the NSIP and will be paid a stipend of N30,000 monthly, and must meet up to 80% of deliverables. The letter articulate the scope of work; routine monitor of NSIP in their assigned L. G . A, provision of evidence based report on findings, amongst others.
The Representative of the Honourable Minister warned IMs not to assign responsibility to third parties, each monitor is to be held accountable by the Ministry by disengaging them in case of any misconduct with set guidelines. He urge them to carry out the assignment with a sense of patriotism, dilligence and sincerity.
Earlier the Focal Person of NSIP, Baba Aminu Zubair, said indeed the Programme is the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, and that Kano State has the highest number of N-Power beneficiaries across the country.
Aminu affirmed that 119,000 households registered under CCT Programme received N5,000 each. He appreciated the Federal Government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for this kind gesture.
The Secretary to the State Government, Usman Alhaji waziriu Gaya, who represented the Governor of Kano State, lauded the Ministry for it’s continued support for taking Nigerians out of the poverty line and improving the living standard of the citizenry.
He told the IMs to make good use of the opportunity given to them to attain greater heights.
Others present were:- the Chairman LGA of Rimi Gado, Barrister Munir Dahiru, the VC University of Kano, Yusuf Maitama Sule who received an award and LGA NSIP Coordinators.
