The Director General of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), Saleh Abubakar, MFR, has announced that the agency will commence the distribution of five million date palm seedlings. This initiative aims to promote tree planting, empower Nigerians, and generate over N300 billion annually through the export of date palms.

Abubakar made this disclosure during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Dutse, Muhammad-Sanusi, in Jigawa State on Thursday.

He explained that the seedlings would be sourced primarily from Jigawa State, one of NAGGW’s frontline operational states. According to him, the impact of this initiative will be evident within three years, creating significant economic opportunities and empowering millions of Nigerians.

“The initiative will contribute over N300 billion annually to Nigeria’s economy,” the Director General said.

Abubakar emphasized that Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, is renowned for its thriving date production. He noted that the state has the potential to supply the required five million seedlings to kick start the project.

In his remarks, the Emir of Dutse, Muhammad-Sanusi, commended NAGGW for leveraging the Agricultural potential of Jigawa State. He urged other relevant agencies to collaborate with Jigawa State to maximize its resources for the advancement of agriculture and the national economy.
