FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Nasarawa state government, north central Nigeria, has promised to seek partnership with the World Bank Nigeria Headquarters to explore strategies to address erosion challenges in the state.
The Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Margaret Elayo, said this during an inspection tour by the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project with the European Investment Bank, NEWMAP-EIB committee at Tudun Kasira community of Lafia Local Government of the state.
She promised to take immediate action by partnering with the World Bank Nigeria headquarters to fund and execute a rescue project.
During the inspection, students and residents of Tudun Kasira made an urgent appeal to the Nasarawa State government to fix a massive gully erosion site that threatens their lives and academic future.

A student, Esther Jatau, who confronts the dangerous path every morning to reach her school, broke down in tears while speaking to the Commissioner.
“Mummy, please, we need the help of the state government,” Esther pleaded. “This gully erosion poses a great threat to our education. Many of us have no alternative routes. My dream is to become a doctor or an engineer, but I’m beginning to fear coming to school because of this erosion.”
The massive gully has left students with no alternative routes, forcing them to walk through highly hazardous terrain to reach their classrooms.
