FIC Report (Oyo State) – The government of President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians once again that it would rescue the abducted school children and their teachers who, on Friday 15th May, 2026, were kidnapped from their schools at Ahoro-Esinele in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
This assurance was given by President Tinubu, Thursday during the opening of the remodeled 154-Bed Premier Hotel, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Tinubu, who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, said his government remained committed to securing the immediate and safe release of the 47 teachers and students abducted from public and private schools in Yawota and Ahoro Esienle communities.
Using the hotel’s reopening occasion to address the residents of Oyo State and the entire South-West region, the President emphasised that the government is confronting the recent upsurge in banditry and kidnapping with renewed vigour and strategic interventions.
“I must reassure the good people of Oyo State and indeed the South-West that the Federal Government is seriously addressing the upswing in banditry, kidnapping and associated criminalities across the nation,” the president said in the statement made by Senator Akume.
According to him, “Every realistic measure, including international collaboration, is being taken to ensure that the kidnapped victims in Oriire Local Government are safely brought home without harm or avoidable loss of life.”
He called on citizens to play their part by remaining vigilant and partnering with security agencies through timely intelligence sharing.
The President particularly urged traditional rulers and faith-based organisations to take leading roles in community-based security efforts using platforms provided by the government.
Highlighting the link between security and prosperity, Tinubu stressed that economic development can only thrive in a peaceful and stable environment.
His administration, he noted, has made significant investments in overhauling the nation’s security architecture over the past three years.
Key initiatives include improved inter-agency coordination, enhanced intelligence gathering, expanded use of technology for surveillance, stronger community policing frameworks, and increased support for the armed forces and other security agencies.
According to him, the federal government is also working with the National Assembly on reforms aimed at strengthening policing at all levels, with rollout expected in the near future.
“These efforts are yielding measurable results across many parts of the country. We remain committed to ensuring that every Nigerian, every investor, and every visitor can live, work, travel and do business in safety and confidence,” the President affirmed.
He therefore invited investors and visitors to take advantage of Nigeria’s improving security landscape, describing the country as an increasingly attractive destination for business and development.
