In a significant boost to local infrastructure and national development goals, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) has officially commissioned two landmark projects in Ota, Ogun State: a modern 40-Bed Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) and the Ota Central Police Divisional Headquarters.
The twin interventions, spearheaded by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, are designed to address the critical nexus between public safety and community health.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Princess Orelope-Adefulire, represented by the Secretary of Programme (SOP-SDGs), Mohammed Bala Saulawa, emphasized that these projects are physical manifestations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Today, we are not merely unveiling structures; we are strengthening the very foundation upon which sustainable development thrives—peace, security, and robust institutions,” the SSAP-SDGs stated. “When security institutions are strengthened and healthcare is accessible, communities flourish and development becomes sustainable.”
The newly constructed Ota Central Police Divisional Headquarters aligns with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The facility is fully equipped to:
Improve the operational capacity of law enforcement,Provide a conducive working environment for officers and foster deeper community-police relations through modern, accessible infrastructure.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, noted that the facility would “significantly improve operational efficiency and strengthen the capacity to respond swiftly to security concerns within Ota and its environs.”
Simultaneously, the 40-bed PHC addresses SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing). The facility is intended to provide quality, affordable, and life-saving services to the most vulnerable, particularly women and children.
“A safe community must also be a healthy community,” Orelope-Adefulire added, highlighting that the PHC will reduce the burden on tertiary health institutions by providing comprehensive primary care at the grassroots level.
The Olota of Ota, His Royal Majesty Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, described the day as historic for Aworiland. He lauded Princess Orelope-Adefulire as an “illustrious daughter” whose dedication to service continues to transform lives across the federation.
“These projects stand as enduring symbols of progress and purposeful governance,” the Monarch declared. “Ota Awori deeply appreciates this practical demonstration of loyalty to the people’s welfare.”
The event was attended by high-ranking government officials, traditional rulers, and community leaders, including the Baale of the adjoining communities, Chief Rasaq Adekunle, and local women leaders, all of whom hailed the interventions as “transformational.”
