FIC Report (Kwara State) – Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has said that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is encouraging farming activities across Nigeria, adding that Kwara State has established a Shea processing factory in Kaiama which will become the second largest in the country when operational. The Governor disclosed this in Ilorin during the visit of the British Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Lever.

AbdulRazaq said his administration has recorded significant achievements in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and road infrastructure since assuming office in 2019. He explained that the government cleared salary and pension backlogs, restored the state’s relationship with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), improved access to healthcare and education, and is considering increasing the minimum wage to N100,000 this year. He also highlighted ongoing efforts by the government and security stakeholders to improve safety in rural communities.

Responding, Gill Lever commended the Kwara State Government for promoting gender inclusion and women’s participation in governance, describing the state as a model for gender equity. She noted that over 50 percent of cabinet positions in the state are occupied by women and praised the Governor’s support for women-focused political reforms. Lever also stated that the British Government is supporting digital skills development in Kwara through initiatives such as the Ilorin Innovation Hub and a community hub in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The British Deputy High Commissioner further reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s support for peaceful, inclusive, and credible elections in Nigeria, stressing that the British Government remains neutral and does not interfere in Nigeria’s political process. She noted that credible elections are important for democratic growth and economic development.
