The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire has reaffirmed the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to the successful implementation of SDGs in Nigeria. She expressed the commitment while declaring open on Tuesday 26th July, 2022, at Stonehedge Hotel in Abuja, the Two-day workshop tagged “Project Web Tool (Pro-Track) and Capacity Building for Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS) state focal Persons and Monitoring and Evaluation Officers on the Implementation of SDGs Conditional Grant Scheme at the Grassroots Level.
Princess Orelope noted that “in line with President Buhari’s commitment to lifting 100 Million Nigerians out of poverty, it is thus our strong desire that through the CGS mechanism the Federal Government will continue to encourage States and Local Governments to build capacities that will improve their financial management for effective pro poor service provisioning. Owing to this, tracking progress through effective monitoring and evaluation system is germane”.
The SSAP who reiterated the importance of capacity building and collaboration to ensure SDGs is achieved by year 2030, explained that this capacity building will familiarize participants to the international best practices on M&E using computer assisted software in tracking OSSAP-SDGs projects and program across the country to enable wide range access by stakeholders and other end users; accelerate the implementation of CGS at the grass-root level in this Decade of Action for Global Goals, and impact technical knowledge, skills and competence amongst others. She therefore solicited for continuous support, commitment and cooperation toward the implementation of the SDGs in Nigeria.
Earlier in his welcome address the Secretary of Program Engr. Ahmad Kawu said the workshop will pave way for improved data collection and reporting which will in turn lead to learning, knowledge sharing and increased accountability in support of 2030 Agenda for sustainable development in Nigeria
The director M&E Alhaji. A B Sa’adu described it as timely as the institutionalization of M&E will guarantee effective service delivery of the SDGs.
Also speaking at the occasion were representatives of the Chairman, Nigerian Governors Forum Eghosa Omoigui, and Statistician General of the Federation Biyi Fafumi. They described the Pro-track to be of high competence and will impact at the sub-national levels as we are in the Decade of Action, stressing that we must maximize the achievement and use the tool for accurate performance, to accelerate implementation of SDGs in Nigeria.
