FIC Report (Kwara State) – Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have thwarted a planned attack in Ilorin, leading to the arrest of two suspected kidnappers and the recovery of three AK-47 rifles along with ammunition.
The operation, which took place on May 5, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., was executed by the Intelligence Response Team following credible intelligence reports and sustained surveillance activities across the Ilorin metropolis.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspects were identified as Adamu Ibrahim, 30, and Sani Musa, 29.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly handed over the weapons to a female accomplice for transportation to a designated location intended for the planned operation.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly led security operatives to a hideout where three AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 magazines, and 143 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered.
Further findings indicated that the suspects, alongside other fleeing gang members, were allegedly preparing for a coordinated attack by moving in smaller groups toward a common meeting point before the operation was disrupted through intelligence-driven policing.
The suspects reportedly confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate operating within and around Kwara State.
The police added that the suspects remain in custody and are cooperating with investigators by providing useful information to aid the arrest of other members of the criminal network and prevent further criminal activities. They will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
